What is StormWatch ?

StormWatch is a new premium service that WeatherMaster offers. StormWatch utilizes the new "storm-specific warnings" now being used. So here's how StormWatch works...

The size of counties & parishes are about 1,000 square miles (about the size of Rhode Island) but most storms average about 200 square miles. Your street address is defined by a "latitude & longitude" reference point. We can take your street address (or latitude & longitude coordinates) and alert you to severe weather (severe thunderstorm, tornado, or flash flood warning). If a particular warning falls within (or within a specified distance of) your address, you're automatically alerted by cell phone (text), e-mail, or text pager. No longer do you have to be tied down to a landline telephone (like some other services require you to do) or a television to see if a warning will be issued for your area, you can be "on the go". Can anyone use the service ?

Absolutely. So long as you have a valid e-mail address, text pager device or text-enabled cellphone, anyone can use it.

 

I currently have StormWatch to alert me by e-mail, but would like to add my cell phone to the existing service. Can I do this ?

Yes you can. Just fill out the form that you initially signed up for, and check the box marked "Check this box if this is an existing StormWatch account ". There is no additional charge to add devices.

 

What makes your service different from the others ?

We offer 1 location to 3 devices and offer it at a lesser (or nearly the same) price as the others. Regular telephone (landline) notification is not available through StormWatch. The information is the same, its just the price that is different. Some will charge up to $100/year/device/location for the same service that we offer. One different aspect of our service is that we do not use "telephone notification" for our services. Telephone notification is landline based and does have limitations, such as busy signals, busy circuits, no answers, etc.. Our system is text-based meaning that our services are immune to "busy signals, busy circuits, no answers", etc... We have determined that traditional "telephone notification" is simply old technology because it sometimes requires human intervention to make it operate correctly. Our system is computer controlled and DOES NOT require human intervention, so its "on guard" 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year...without fail !

 

I'm not receiving my StormWatch alerts when there is a winter storm warning. Why ?

Currently, StormWatch does not work with winter storm products, only flash flood, tornado, and severe thunderstorm warnings. Plans are in the works by the National Weather Service to incorporate winter storm products into StormWatch.

 

I'm having problems with my StormWatch account. How do I get help ?

Simple. E-mail the problem here and someone in our Network Operations Centre will respond to it. StormWatch is a very popular service, so it might take a few hours to respond, but we will respond ! Or you can leave us a voice mail at 870-568-7520 (not a toll free number). Most inquiries are resolved within 2-4 hours.

 

You don't take debit (credit) cards or EBT... Why ?

Most people are uncomfortable giving their debit (credit) card number to a website. Even if the site is secure, identity theft can still occur and has occurred in the past to even the most secure of websites (as evidenced by several national news stories of breached websites). Its been our experience that our customers still like to mail a check, and we're glad to have it that way.
